Mobility Map

As part of the Shire of Campaspe's Building Inclusive Communities Initiative, the Shire's  RuralAccess Project Committee will officially launch the 'Shire of Campaspe Mobility Map 2003' on Thursday 4 September in the Function Room, Echuca Head Office.

Community Service portfolio holder Councillor Peter Williams said, the Campaspe Shire's Building Inclusive Communities and RuralAccess reflects a commitment to create a community which enhances opportunities for participation and inclusion in all aspects of community life by people with disabilities.

"The Mobility Map 2003 booklet consists of information and maps which highlight services and facilities within the Central Business Districts of Kyabram, Rushworth, Rochester, Tongala and Echuca for those with a disability, the frail aged and even those who suddenly find themselves on crutches," said Cr Williams. Icons on the mobility maps pinpoint public seating, accessible telephones, accessible street parking, accessible ATM's, accessible toilets, curb ramps and access and street crossings for those with low vision.

The booklet provides telephone numbers for wheelchair accessible taxis, community transport, how to obtain parking permits for people with a disability and other important contacts such as the police, hospital and medical centres.

It outlines disability access to tourist attractions across the Shire such as the Rushworth Museum, the Kyabram Fauna Park, The Golden Cow Dairy Centre and Mini Farm and the Historic Port of Echuca precinct.

"The Shire of Campaspe Mobility Map is the cumulation of the wonderful work of five working groups of people with disabilities who have assisted the Access Committee

Project Team, Jenni Coldwell the Project Worker and Viv Armstrong Campaspe Shire RuralAccess Worker,"

"They have worked diligently together to develope and implement the access/mobility maps for the five central business areas of the Shire," said Cr Williams.

The mobility maps are an initiative of the RuralAccess Committee and have been funded through the Campaspe Shire RuralAccess Program.

Councillor Williams said the Shire's RuralAccess Program is designed to enhance the lives of people with disabilities and their families. It addresses issues of isolation, builds community participation and provides opportunities for people with disabilities.

"The Mobility Maps are another important tool that allows those with a disability or the frail aged to access information, services and facilities within the Shire of Campaspe," said Cr Williams.
